Birthday and such...

Just another year older now. Made my favorite homemade dinner and baked a cake... FOR MYSELF!

Breaking news: Kids are now out for the summer and I have officially made it to the ranks of a parent of two children in HighSchool!! Scary. Time has just flown by!

In health news: My Dad is doing better, but his pain is still keeping him in need of more care. He has a few blood clots in his legs and needs to be monitored pretty close still. I see months upon months of rehab in his future.

In good news, Hubby told me that he should be able to get some time off for our 10 year anniversary, so that we can take the much needed trip back East to visit his family and my sister. So that will be nice. Now we just have to come up with the extra cash for the tickets for the 4 of us.

In related news, Kids will not be with their father this summer as per usual, due to his being in Basic Training. They also won't be seeing their grandmother this summer, as they usually do, because she can't take days off? Ummm... she gets home at 4, pretty sure a nearly 16 year old and a 14 1/2 year old can keep their selves occupied during the day and she could spend some time with them in the evening and on the weekend while they are there. Besides with the time difference and the fact they are in fact teenagers, they will probably be getting up right around the time she gets home anyway.

It's not like we live down the street or anything! Sometimes people make me wonder what on earth they are thinking!

Favorite Food

Ah did I mention I had my favorite food the other night, sort of an early birthday dinner. Expensive but worth it. So good and I haven't had it for 4 years.

MMMM.. bulgogi, kimchi, japchea, kalbi

Someday my husband and I will get the chance to visit Korea together, he's been there twice with the Army.

Did you loose something?

I was wondering how many people lost classmates during the transitions between 1st and 2nd semester and so forth.

You always wonder how many of the ones who started will actually finish. Will I be one of them?

Today I received a call from one of those such classmates who said she did not make it by 5 points! Which sucks of course. Rumor is that 5 others did not make it too and that number may be climbing.

Guess we'll know in Aug, but I really thought it would come together and NEVER knew some of those that didn't make it were in jeopardy

One person actually 3 tests out was told that they could not miss more than 6 questions on the last two tests, and they actually didn't! Just goes to show what actually opening your books for a change will help you do. Of course they passed with the barest minimum. But hey its a pass right?!?

Lost In Austen - ITV Drama

Lost In Austen - ITV Drama

I really enjoy period movies and although this is a quirky reincarnation of Pride and Prejudice. It was a nice make me smile kind of movie. I prefer Indy type movies and this did not disappoint.

Semester Grades

I'm a bit pissed right now at myself because I got the freaking B in theory - 5 credits at a B equals 15 GPA points. However, my other A (in lab/clinical) equates to a P for Pass and 0 points towards GPA even though it was 5 credits!

So 2 A's and a B gets me a 3.286 for the semester instead of a 4.0 due to .25 points! This calls for a loud scream!!! FUCK!
I really can't wait for "real" school to start again.

I just feel so unmotivated now and well... BORED! I have things to do or things I can do but I just feel blah!

1. ) I have Algebra to do. Which I have done all the homework and the practice questions and just have the test to take which isn't due until Saturday. Every Saturday is test day.

2.) Chemistry starts on the 6th, and well I'm sure I will be crazy "busy" with that class since stupid me took it in an 8 week format, so that makes it double assignment weeks. The piles of lab reports, quizzes and essay questions. These online courses are so much more work than in-person classes.

3.) I need to do some NCLEX questions to say on the Nursing School track that's for sure and I want to start outlining the second semester chapters too.

But it all seems so "fake"! How weird is that? I have come to the conclusion that I just can't be satisfied. LOL

Oh and in personal news, good news is that I am totally finally going to get some Korean food, which I haven't had in 4 years, on Friday and in not so good news, my Jeep sorta blew up this afternoon, pouring out coolant, I really hope its a simple hose or the water pump and not the friggin' radiator!!

Who came first Bella or Sookie?

Is it just me or are these two series very similar? Hearing thoughts? Not being able to hear the object of your affections thoughts? Shape shifting into a dog?

Odd very odd.

Twilight and True Blood.... chicken? egg? or copyright infringement?

Summer Break

Today is the first official start of summer break, what I mean by that is my Algebra class has started. I can't find my graphing calculator that I bought, which means time for a search through the storage unit.

My Chemistry class starts on the 6th of June. I still have to pay for that class and get the book and all that good stuff. But at least I don't have to drive the 30 miles and go to classes for the summer that will be nice!

So... I agreed to work some coverage hours over the summer at my old Customer Service job to hopefully get enough money to cover tuition for my Fall classes. I don't want to take out any more loans until if I don't have to yet!

I am thinking I want to work at the VA when I graduate. I have always wanted to, but I really want the PACU too. The VA is probably the only place right now hiring new grads, but we'll see. I have the chance to do it for clinical, but its so far away I didn't want to do clinical there. I am in turmoil over this because I think I should to give me a better chance after graduation to get in there.

Ok I am just rambling now. Think I'll go shower and then head out to search for my calculator! I hate ALGEBRA!

Slim Sliver of Hope

Got an A on my final. I missed 4 out of 75. Which is .25 points less than I needed to pull out an A for the total class, if they don't round it. So right now I am sitting at a 91.75% and a 92% is an A. Final grade hasn't posted yet so there is a slim sliver of hope left for that A over all.

Just like old times... almost

Sitting here at my old work. Was laid off in September, but only so I could concentrate on Nursing School.

But here I am covering for the Receptionist. Weird how everything is different but nothing has changed.

Feels like I have never left. Its such an awesome feeling to have been missed and not forgotten!!

Answers to questions I've been asked

Do you still get to spend quality time with the family?

I have teenagers so its easier at this age to spend "quality time" whenever they get a little bit of time and want to let me in. They quiz me while I study and it allows us to joke around and talk too.

Or are you missin out?

Only on sleep and a clean house.

Are you working?

I work some per Diem office shifts but not really working. I do Respite care and over the summer I will pick up some more office per Diem stuff and some home health care. But school is my full time job... at least until December then I'll test for my LPN and work during my last two RN semesters.

What do you think about working part time to gain some experience?

While in school you may have to give up one thing or another, sometimes getting the grade means that working or spending time with family must be sacrificed and that all depends on you. I didn't have to work, I made other sacrifices for that luxury, so its all a personal choice.

CNA?
If you want, I did it back in the day, because I knew I wanted to be a Nurse. Except it more talked me out of it than helped me. I walked away from the field for 10 years.

But working as a CNA can give you some chances to work on fundamentals and watch what the nurses do. ( Except you may not have time as the CNA's have such high pt loads and lots of people to clean)

Anything else just ask!

GPA points make no sense

Apparently an A in a 2 credit ( why the hell is Pharmacology 2 credits anyway!!! ) course is equal to 8.00 GPA points... umm for anyone who knows that's like getting a B. Don't they know an A in this class was a 92% and higher!!

So does that mean that getting a B in a 5 credit course is like getting an A for GPA points? I doubt it!

What is that ticking noise?

Tomorrow is the final!

I have been studying for days, but you know I feel as if it will never be enough, then I feel like it is and this is just overkill to spend so much time freaking out about it! This stuff isn't that hard... or maybe it is and I don't know it?

LOL.... I hate FINALS!!

***** update *******

Ok that test was pretty easy!!! So if I miss less than 5 I get an A for the course. WOW, I know one I may be screwed on cuz, well I totally didn't corralate Pt teaching to rinse with NS, as the same as rinse with salt water. Not many people would know what that meant. So I did not choose both a & c.... or a & b or E whatever the answer was.. LOL

Its my blog and I'll brag if I want to...

Sung to the melody of " It's my party and I'll cry if I want to"

So Pharmacology is in the bag with 143 points out of 150 total!

That's pretty darn good. If I wouldn't have gotten so tired and gave up on the other Pharm Case studies I was working on, I could have pulled out 4 more "extra credit" points and ended with a 147 given the comments I got on the 2 Case Studies I did turn in.

Oh well an A is an A they don't give GPA credit based on + or - anyway.

My very own Real Life Patient

Well I have my very own Patient I get to practice wound care with ss drainage to boot, medication side effect maintenance- N/V/D, sweating & orthostatic Hypotension, Blood glucose monitoring, TPR & BP, plus assess for lung sounds due to pneumonia in the lower left quadrant. Comes with a walker and a hospital bed included!

Poor Dad!

Well in good news I had my Pharmacology final yesterday, I have no idea how I did yet, I think well, but I only need 9 more points to pass the class, so other than shooting for an A. I'm damn sure I passed that class.

I have a final review today, then my Theory Final on Thursday. I can actually still get an A in that class by racking up 74.25 points out of the 79 possible left. Although I only need 39.25 more points to pass, which is still a lot, but it gives me some bubble room. I think I can put it all together no problems to at least keep my B. But oh wouldn't it be nice to get an A?

Well off to finish getting dressed and head out to class.

1 week from today

And its the end of semester 1 of Nursing School... only 3 more to go until RN. Taking a 15 minute break from studying to blog, addicted I think. LOL

Hubby called and said with good news, that they were signed off of their shipment and are coming home tomorrow. So all is good for Friday Thank God one less thing to worry about. It only took the actual client to be there, to tell them what he really needed this time, to get it done right. That's the DOD for you.

OK back to study study study.

My head is going to explode

Things are so crazy right now I am not even sure what to do first.

These last few weeks of school are so disorganized it is driving me crazy. I need to study for so many things and do so many things just for school that the home life explosion of things to do is throwing everything just more into a whirlwind.

My father is having major surgery on Friday and my husband just found out that he has to leave for Virginia tonight. Plus he is not sure when he is coming home this time. A few days or a few weeks.

Needless to say this throws some major wrenches in the works since I have a final on Friday, hubby was supposed to get the kids to school and back and now won't be able to. Now it's a crazy shuffle to find out who's doing what and when, considering my schedule and my father's surgery are NOT negotiable.

To do:

Study for test on Thursday -3 Chapters ( Pain, Care of a Surgical Pt & The Older Adult)

Prepare a presentation ( Due today if there is time) or Thursday if there is not. A group thing that needs to be put together still.

Learn more about Fluids & Electrolytes, Caring for a Pt with an Immune Disorder, Caring for a Pt with Cancer, Caring for a Pt with an Urinary disorder & finally caring for a person with an Integumentary disorder.

Practice and study for skills final on Friday

Prepare 3 Case Study medlists with 5 interventions for 10 meds on each case study for Pharm due on Monday

Study for Pharm final on Monday the 11th

Study for Theory final on Thursday the 14th.

I can't even think now. Off to figure something out.

Cute pic of daughter from Prom last night

oh yes we recycled the dress from her father's wedding. Which was the plan to begin with when she picked it out.

See you in 12 days

Busy busy weeks ahead with two projects due, the last theory test and then finals. Tons to study. Really need to crack the books HARD! I need to be diligent with this and break my bad habit of slacking I've recently acquired. I can't blame it on clinical burn out anymore. Only 7 more class days left in the semester.

Hope everyone's finals go well... good luck!

100th post!

And clinical is in the bag! WOOT! Today I really spent the 8 hrs doing nothing but sitting around and finishing up paperwork. It took forever but I just really couldn't wait to get out of there. I really can say that I won't miss it. But it may be weird to not go there after so many months. We've been in clinical since February!

Happy hour with the girls after clinical was fun and now for the last test in theory and then finals!
