Nursing Education was/is only as good as the student's dedication to learning!

Advise I gave on a website regarding someone blaming their school because their own "skills suck!"

I think because I can come up with this crap from the top of my head, that Nursing Education is exactly the path I want my career to take ultimately.

  1. Yes and no. If the material isn't any good, I defy the best student to learn. But if the student is unwilling, there is no chance that the student will ever learn. The material can be top notch but still nothing.

I suspect its a matter of it taking two to tango, and that some students study in different ways than material presented. And some of course, just want to do the beer and college lifestyle thing, sadly.

  2. I honestly don't think that nursing school prepares you to be a nurse. I think nursing is gained OTJ like most other jobs. And this has been confirmed by a number of nurses that I know. Scary but true.

  4. I totally agree! Especially if you have instructors that just read a powerpoint. I will strive to instruct with skills and practical knowledge. Thus case studies and critical thinking and more simulation labs should be included vs boring theory lectures about crap that isn't even on the NCLEX.

  5. heh. If instructors just read off powerpoint I get bored real fast..and a bored Cait is a bratty Cait. Gimme info! not stuff I've already read ten minutes ago when you put it up while you were getting ready and talking to folks. *G*

Case studies are awesome. group work sucks.
